Classical Music Takes to the Streets – The MUSTRA – Klasszik Street Competition Was Held for the First Time

In 2026, the Zeneszüret Festival in Pécs, organised by Filharmónia Hungary, was enriched with a new and exciting programme: the MUSTRA – Klasszik Street music competition was held for the first time.

The basic idea behind MUSTRA is simple yet unconventional: this time, classical music performers had the opportunity to showcase their talent not in the usual concert setting, but in the vibrant public spaces of the city. Over two evenings, Jókai Square, Széchenyi Square and Színház Square were filled with music. We were looking for performances that combined a high level of professional excellence with an engaging and creative approach, and that could connect with passers-by and the audience.

The winner of the first MUSTRA was Aire, with Duo Sereno taking second place and Daniel Speer Brass coming third. The Audience Award went to Voice and Brass.

The first edition of MUSTRA was therefore not only the launch of a new competition, but also created a new meeting point between musicians and audiences. For a few hours, it became perfectly natural to encounter classical music on the streets of Pécs – not coming from a concert hall, but from a corner of a square, among passers-by, as an integral part of everyday city life.
