Krisztian Cser was born in Szeged. Although growing up in a musician family, after graduation he majored in physics at University of Szeged. Due to strong musician roots physics was finally replaced by music. He studied singing at University of Szeged with Istvan Andrejcsik, in 2008 he majored in opera at the Liszt Academy of Music, tutored by Eva Marton. He debuted as oratorio soloist in 1998 and made his first appearances in opera roles in 2008. As of the same year first he became scholar, than regular guest artist of the Hungarian Opera. He has been either finalist or winner of numerous Hungarian and international singing contests or was recognized with special awards. Over the years the leading role of Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle has become his emblematic role. His performances as Bluebeard are a great success in several Hungarian and international productions involving renowned conductors. Certain countries saw the premiere of this opera with Krisztian Cser in the title role. He also performs the leading role on the CD released for the centenary of Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle, in 2018, with the participation of the Budafoki Dohnanyi Orchestra conducted by Gabor Hollerung.
Besides Bluebeard he has several significant performances on opera stages. He frequently appears in Mozart operas, giving unforgettable interpretations as Figaro or in Don Giovanni as Leporello. Also regularly plays roles in Italian and German operas, like the Grand Inquisitor in Verdi’s Don Carlos or Wotan in Wagner’s Das Rheingold.
In season 2018/19 many guest performances await for him abroad. Following a successful debut in 2018 he will return to Chemnitz performing as Wotan in Wagner’s Das Rheingold as well as debuting as Don Pizarro in Beethoven’s Fidelio. Once again he will join the international tour of the Budapest Festival Orchestra in 2019. In March and April he will perform Bluebeard in Bartok’s opera with Ildiko Komlosi contucted by Ivan Fischer, in prestigious concert halls such as the Philharmonie in Paris, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg or the Carnegie Hall in New York . Besides the appearances abroad this season also includes several opera and concert performances in Hungary.
