Richard Strauss was all at once a celebrated and a scolded composer of his time. This is what he said of himself: “I may not be a first-rate composer, but I am a first-class second-rate composer.” However as time has proven he has rightly earned his place among the very best, even Stanley Kubrick “borrowed” the opening tunes of 2001: A Space Odyssey. At the concert in Békéscsaba a composition of Benjamin Britten, the great traveller and patriot, who always returned faithfully to his British homeland, will also be performed.
