Bánk Sáry

Sáry BánkBánk Sáry was born in 1973 in Budapest, Hungary. His father and uncle are likewise composers. He started to learn playing the piano and percussion at the age of seven. Between 1989 and 1993 he studied composition at the Béla Bartók Music Secondary School, Budapest. In 1994 he continued his composition studies at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest. He has got his Composer’s and Music Theory Teacher’s diploma in 1999.
In 1998 he had got a fellowship to Italy and between 1999 and 2001 he was studying at the Giuseppe Verdi Academy of Music in Como. Leading of professor Ivan Fedele. He was holder of the Zoltán Kodály Scholarship for composers in Hungary between 2001 and 2005. He taught music with his father at the Academy of Drama and Film in Budapest between 2002 and 2013. He taught in Hungary (Budapest), Germany (Cottbus, Essen, Saarbrücken, Friedrichshafen, Meckenbeuren) and Japan (Tokyo, Fukuoka, Miyakonojo).
He visited the International Bartók Festival and Seminar, Szombathely, Hungary in 1991-1998 where he took part in the master classes of the Composition and Computer Music Course. In the first part of 2002 he spent five months in Edenkoben (Germany) in an Artists’ house (called „Herrenhaus“) with the recommendation of Peter Eötvös.
He was invited to the composer’s seminar of the „International Ensemble Modern Akademie” (IEMA) in Frankfurt. At the final concert in 15 December 2005 his work “Lullaby“ was performed by the Ensemble Modern.
Some of his works have been performed and recorded by the Hungarian Radio. His ‘Apocalypsis’ series for the six male-singers group ‘Voces Aequales’, has been published on CD in 1998. His first composer’s CD has been published in 2007 by Hungaroton. In 2008 he got Erkel-prize.
He got the Hungarian State Scholarship (Eötvös Scholarship) three times. 2001 Italy, Giuseppe Verdi Academy of Music Como. 2005 Japan, Studying the japanese traditional music and theatre. 2011 USA, studying the music and art of the native american people. He has finished the DLA program in 2016 at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music Budapest.
